Tanzania safari conjours up ideas of game drives and while this is true, visitors can also enjoy climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, bird watching, enjoy water sports and other activities.
With so many attractions to talk about, and for the sake of keeping it short, we are going to look at the major attractions found in Northern Tanzania. The national parks found in this region include Lake Manyara, Tarangire National Park, Serengeti and Mt Kilimanjaro.
1. The Tarangire National Park
Tarangire has the highest population of elephant in all the parks in Tanzania and its also a popular location to stop for those that are going on safari on the Northern Tanzania circuit. Among the animals found in this park include zebras, elephants, gazelles and giraffes.
2. The Amazing Lake Manyara National Park
The park of Lake Manyara is comprised of grasslands, woodlands and swamps. The lake itself is alkaline in nature and is home to thousands of flamingoes as well as different kinds of birds. These bird species include the egrets, storks, ostriches and pelicans. Other bird species include the rare pygmy goose and species of ibis. Baboons are also found in large numbers in this park. Animals found in this park include the lions, warthogs, elephants, wildebeests and hippos
3. The Mighty Kilimanjaro - The park boasts of the highest mountain park in Africa and it has been one of the most popular destinations since 1977 when it was first opened. The highest peak is the Uhuru Peak on Kibo. Mount Kilimanjaro was formed over 1,000,000 years ago and it has one of the Seven Summits of the world. Summits are a list of mountains that are the highest in each continent on the face of the earth. Mountain climbers' flock to this park and those that manage to reach the summit is a great feat for them
4. Ngorongoro Area
Ngorongoro Conservation Area is part of the Serengeti ecosystem, and to the north-west, it adjoins the Serengeti National Park and is contiguous with the southern Serengeti plains, these plains also extend to the north into unprotected Loliondo division and are kept open to wildlife through trans-human pastoralism practiced by Maasai. The southern and eastern boundaries are approximately defined by the rim of the Great Rift Valley wall, which also prevents animal migration in these directions.
The Ngorongoro Crater is located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and lies between Lake Manyara and the Serengeti at about 80 km west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania. Ngorongoro Conservation Area was also declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and boasts of the largest intact caldera in the world. The bottom of the crater supports many wild animals and for those that are interested in bird watching, game viewing and game safaris will find this place fulfilling. Olduvai Gorge, a, archeological site is also found in this area.
5. Serengeti National Park
We also have the Serengeti National park. This is a park that borders the Masai Mara and its endless plains of grass with its shadows of acacia trees present a very unique image of Africa. Its home to unique ecosystems and the number of wildlife in this place is staggering to the mind. Its not hard to see many lions sleeping and lying on the grass and elephants quietly feeding and tearing down acacia barks as they trump and walk down the plains. Visitors will also get to see monkeys, giraffes, gazelles and a whole myriad of other wild animals.
The Great Wildebeest Migration takes place in the Serengeti and this is where over 1,000,000 wild animals that include wilderbeests and zebras make their yearly journey to look for food in the north then to the south. Also, doing a hot air balloon is a popular option for those that want to track the wild animals from the air. - 15432
