A Weight Loss Diet for Fat People - A Marketing Fantasy!

By Stephen Bartlay

The idea of a weight loss diet for fat people is one of the biggest hoaxes marketers have ever pulled off. Millions of innocent people and billions of dollars are sucked in every single year.

Shocking:

Is this one of the silliest things you've heard in a while? Why would someone say something so outrageous?

Skeptical? For crying out loud-everyone knows weight loss diets make up a billion-dollar-a-year industry.

Let me ask you this: if someone is packing some extra pounds, are we dealing with a "fat person" or a "fat people?" I'm sure you answered a "fat person." And right you are. And this answer is also the key to exposing one of marketing's great hoaxes. This hoax is magnetized to suck the bucks out of purses and wallets all over this continent.

The whole key is this: "Fat people" is a group. Groups do not (cannot) go on diets. It is individual people who go on diets!

The Difference Is In "Who's" Fat, Not "What's" Fat!

Commonalities define groups. A secret in creating really large groups is to include as FEW commonalities as possible.

So when marketers advertise "A Diet for Overweight People," they want to target as many people as possible. And to do this, what do you think they have to do? I bet you figured it out. To make a huge group, they must have a really small number of commonalities. In this situation, they used only one commonality--fatness.

It seems easy and straight forward to market their new "Diet for Overweight People." If 5 people buy this diet, it should work for them all since they are all "fat people." So this diet should be perfect for each individual, right?

WRONG!

Let's take a closer look?

* George is overweight because of hormonal imbalances

* Sheila eats a lot of meat and dairy products from producers that make use of growth hormones to fatten up the livestock. Sheila doesn't realize that these chemicals are still present and are fattening her up as well!

* Peter has passed beyond the big four zero. And 2 years ago, Peter was transferred to a management level desk job (where he gets no exercise) from a field position (where he got lots of exercise). Peter's problems can be traced to a metabolism that is slowing down.

* After her second pregnancy, Margaret has been yoyo dieting. She has now trained her body to hold onto all the fat it can either find or manufacture. Her body has also learned to be very frugal about spending calories for activity. In short, yoyo dieting has converted Margaret's body into an optimized fat storage machine.

* In Barbara's eyes, the mirror reflects the image of a fat person. Dear Barbara has struggled for years to control her weight. Her failure to lose weight keeps her in a constant state of depression. Obvious to all who see this poor soul, but unbeknownst to Barbara herself, she is at least 20 pounds underweight! Dieting has failed Barbara because it is only the image in her mind's eye that is fat.

t Is Here My Friend That I Rest My Case:

It is individuals that make up the group called "Fat people." Each of these individuals is struggling with their personalized version of overweight. This fact makes it impossible for there to be a "perfect diet for fat people."

However, it is possible to find the perfect diet for you. All that is required is a little homework and applying a little healthy skepticism when dealing with marketing material. - 15432
